Six Year Old Young Men
Posted By Jacque Dixon on July 23, 2009
Today is my second son’s sixth birthday. I cannot believe he is already six. Where did the first five years go so quickly? He is such a little boy, and now able to do so many responsible things too!
In honour of his birthday, I thought it would be fun to list my favourite things about him, as a now six-year-old young man.
He is a helpful big brother.
He loves to colour and does it well.
He is particular about his clothes and always dresses spiffy.
He loves his cowboy boots.
He loves to swing.
He can swing himself. – and almost touch the branch on the tree above the playset!
He is old enough now to help with the barn chores each morning.
He is in charge of running leftovers out to feed the ducks and chickens.
He loves the new baby goat kids.
He loves orange juice.
He can fold his own clothes.
He can put his own sheets on his twin bed.
He, like the rest of us, loves popsicles!
He doesn’t mind getting things for his mom with an ever-growing belly!
He is content to play alone.
He plays in a scientific way, learning at whatever he does.
He is getting good with a hammer and loves to help me with projects!
He makes it a point to say good night to each family member before he goes to bed.
He makes it a point to come and sit on my lap and tell me good night and gives me a peck on the cheek.
I am so thrilled to watch you grow up, my sweet little man, but sad to see your baby-ness slowly going. Happy birthday to my sweet six-year-old young man!! Momma loves you!
What are some favourite things you remember about your sons when they were six-year-old boys?

That is a lot of hugs to give at bedtime! How sweet
My boys were adorable when they were 6 (actually, they were adorable in a lot of stages/ages!) I think the unique thing about 6, though, is how they seem to begin to grasp a better understanding of their sweet little lives. Their comments and actions beging to reflect a deeper thought process and this, in turn, makes this age all the more endearing.
My oldest became very articulate at 6. He developed an insatiable thirst for BOOKS! He wanted desperately to read and tried to read everything he could! He also discovered the cause/effect of a good sense of humor and practiced it regular
He learned that year that girls had cooties and was quick to run when they approached!
My youngest son has always been quiet. His distant eyes always sparkle and his smile is ever endearing. He was always quick to climb in my lap for cuddles and stories. Regular snuggles on the couch with a movie were among his favorites! Sometimes his little sister would tuck herself into my arms and he would lay on top of my side (as I laid on my side) like I was his perch! I really miss those days… he is too big for his perch now
He LOVES to wear hats and looks all the more charming with a baseball cap or cowboy hat on his crew-cut head. When he wasn’t cuddling with me he was often with his cars and large tonka trucks. Always building roads, driving on them, and just having good hard ‘big guy’ fun!
Thanks so much for sharing the sixth birthday. I hope he has a lovely day. And thank you for stiring up such fun memories in me with my own!
